The
very first Sunday we attended First Baptist Church of Baker Eldon and
I noticed the upcoming event notice for Jr. Week at Black Hills
Baptist Bible Camp. It was for 4th
- 7th
graders so Makayla could easily slide in. After a few weeks when we
had the feel of things I got the nerve to ask Pastor Levi if it was
even an option to send Makayla. It most definitely was so the next
hurdle was getting Makayla convinced to go. We were a bit surprised
that she had no reservations at all and begged to go!
She
rode down with the load from here that included a counselor, camp
nurse, helper, and 4 other campers. It's only 3.5 hours from Baker
and Eldon had off 5 days after camp so we drove down and picked her
up then spent a few days in the area. Plus, we were able to spend a
couple days with another full-time family, Bill and Lisa, who also
sent their daughter to camp.
Makayla
often doesn't have a lot to say (clearly, she takes after the King's)
so we were stunned when we picked her up Saturday morning and she
talked non-stop the 30 minutines back to our campground. And she
giggled and laughed like never before! Also, she drank no less then 4
cups of coffee and told us in a very miffed tone of voice, “At camp
only the adults were allowed to have coffee.” So yes, it's safe to
say that she had a great time. She's planning on going next year and
has been working on memorizing Bible verses from her folder for extra
credit already :).
I
asked her to write a report about her week, which was met with many
moans and groans but I think she did a great job and I've shared it
here. I'll also include a few pictures that I have of their activities. Edit: I'm not sure why the pictures aren't better quality but I just did a quick download so I'll try to fix it later.
Bible
Camp 2018
At
Black Hills Baptist Bible Camp every morning between 6:45-7:15 we got
up and got ready for breakfast. After breakfast and the flag raising
cermonary we went back to our cabins for clean-up. The cleanest cabin
got to go first in line at supper! Then we got together for morning
singing and evangelist time. Then we had morning rec time. Following
that was missonary time where we learned from a missionary from
South Africa. Finally, choir practice or free time for whoever didn't
join the choir.
We
had lunch and rest time. After rest time we did scripture memory
where we memorized verses and said them to our counsellor. Following
was rec time 1. For canteen time we got a free snack and drink. Then
was rec time II.
Some
of the activities we did at rec times were fishing, zip-lining, air
soft, archery, a hike, and a ninja warrior obstacle course. On the
last day we had a competition to see who was the best ninja warrior.
Each team entered a boy and girl from their team that completed the
course the fastest. There were six teams blue, red, yellow, green,
purple, and orange.
In
the evenings we got cleaned up and headed over to the main building.
There we had supper and evening singing. Following that was
evangelist timethen missionary time around the campfire. Finally we
got ready for bed and turned the lights out at 9:30.
One
of my favorite parts of camp was the zip-line. I also enjoyed Lee
Peterson talking about South Africa. I hope I can go again next year.
