Hershey Chocolate Factory!

In December Eldon's recruiter told him that he needs to go to the nearest testing center in order to keep up some of his licensing stuff. As soon as we heard that was in Hershey, PA, we made plans to turn it into a family day! The children and I spent 3 hours at the library until Eldon was done with his skills check-off. After lunch at IHOP we headed to the chocolate world!

The factory gives a free tour that is so fun! They load you into these little cars and take you through the steps of making chocolate.

We started in the barn, where cows who had names like Mocha, Caramel, and Cappuccino sang us a welcome song. Most of the milk from Hershey's chocolate is from local dairy's. We went through a cacao tree orchard and saw a video on how they are grown and harvested. Then our cool little cars took us through a roasting oven. The bean's are cracked, and ground into chocolate liquor, then milk and sugar are added. Lots more mixing, melting, and refining are done before perfect chocolate comes out the other end.

The sugar canister!

It smelled sooooo good!

Bottles of chocolate syrup.

After the tour we were all given a free piece of freshly made candy and I do believe it was the best we ever had! Of course we had to do some shopping in their huge store too and spent a rather ridiculous amount of money. So much for free tour :).
